Lasers target individual hair follicles, honing in on pigments in the follicle. That means your provider at Medical Aesthetics, Ltd., can safely use a laser to heat and destroy the hair follicle without harming the surrounding tissues.
The providers at Medical Aesthetics, Ltd., perform laser hair removal on all skin types. You can have hair removed from small, sensitive areas like your face, underarms, and bikini line, as well as large areas of hair such as your legs and back.
The best in laser hair removal technology is available at Medical Aesthetics, Ltd., because they have two types of Cutera® lasers.
The Cutera xeo® is customized for clients with lighter skin types. The Nd:YAG is better for clients with darker pigmented individuals. Using the ProWave LX™ or the Nd:YAG handpieces, your provider can quickly eliminate fine or coarse hair from large and small body areas.
Lasers can only treat hair follicles while they’re actively growing hair. All hair follicles go through a growth stage that’s followed by a dormant stage when hair growth stops. After a few months of rest, the hair follicle goes back into action and grows new hair.
On any given day, some of your hair follicles are in the resting stage, while others are in their growth phase. To catch all the follicles while they’re growing, you may need up to 10 treatments, with each session spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
Additionally, you may be required to come back for maintenance treatments if you see further hair growth.
Your session may take a few minutes or up to two hours, depending on the size of the area being treated. After a laser session, it’s natural to have slight redness and swelling in the treated areas, but these side effects usually go away in a few hours.
While you can get back to your normal daily routine when your session is finished, it’s important to avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen after laser treatment.
It's important to remember that the hair follicle must be intact in order for laser hair removal to be effective. This means no waxing, plucking, or threading 4 weeks prior to and in-between sessions.
